Thompson Lead-Free Opaque Enamel Color 1997 Crackle Base, Black is a premium crackle enamel designed for safe, vibrant finishes. This lead-free formula delivers a bold, opaque black that reveals dramatic crackle textures when fired on metal clays and metal surfaces.
Fire it at medium temperatures between 1400F and 1500F on silver, copper, gold, low-carbon steel, and metal clays such as fine silver clay or copper clay to achieve consistent crackle patterns with minimal streaking. The enamel’s expansion characteristics (coefficient of expansion 2) promote predictable cracking and enduring color once cooled.
Ideal for jewelry and decorative pieces, this 2 oz bottle provides dependable coverage and a smooth application on prepared surfaces. It is compatible with Thompson enamels and similar opaque crackle bases, making it easy to layer or pair with complementary colors for multi-tone designs.
